Richard Molloy

Richard Molloy

Consultant Surgeon

Richard Molloy qualified from the University College Cork, Ireland and subsequently trained in Cork University Hospital, Harvard University and the Brigham & Women’s hospital Boston where he was awarded an MD for this research. He subsequently trained in Glasgow and Edinburgh before completing his training as a Clinical Fellow in the Dept. of Colorectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Ohio USA. Thereafter he has worked as a Consultant Surgeon in the NHS in Gartnavel General and the Queen Elizabeth University hospital Glasgow. His Private practice is based at Ross Hall hospital and the Glasgow Nuffield hospital.

He has published widely on colonoscopy, colorectal, general and hernia surgery. He has co-authored/edited 3 major surgical textbooks on Colorectal and General surgery. Over the last 25 years as a consultant, he has developed particular expertise in colonoscopy, laparoscopic colorectal and laparoscopic hernia surgery.

He performs more than 200 colonoscopies/year. In addition to to standard diagnostic colonoscopy for bowel problems, he also performs bowel cancer screening colonoscopy within the NHS and he has a special interest in therapeutic colonoscopy to remove large polyps, dilate colonic strictures and treat radiation proctitis with argon plasma coagulation.

He has an additional interest in hernia surgery and provides a comprehensive open and laparoscopic/keyhole surgery service to manage all abdominal hernias.

Ahmed Alani is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon. In addition to being a founder memeber of colonoscopy Scotland, he also works in the NHS at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and is and an honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Glasgow University.
Mr Alani specialises in the robotic and laparoscopic management of colon and rectal conditions including bowel cancer and polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, faecal incontinence, prolapse, piles - haemorrhoids and hernia surgery. He also has been at the forefront in introducing Robotic Assisted Surgery for Colorectal cancer in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

He graduated with honours in 1994 and went on to do his early surgical training in Ireland and subsequently moved to Glasgow where he completed his surgical training. During this time, he carried out clinical research and was awarded an MD higher degree from Glasgow University.

Ahmed specializes in modern colonoscopy and performs more than 200 colonoscopies/year. He performs bowel screening colonoscopy in the NHS and has a particular interest in diagnostic colonoscopy, bowel screening and therapeutic colonoscopy such as removing complex polyps etc.. He is also an expert in minimally invasive techniques having undertaken an Ethicon fellowship in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He is also one of the first surgeons in Scotland to develop a robotic colorectal cancer surgery in the NHS and in the private sector in RossHall hopsital.
